Abstract
This article aims to analyze the aesthetic symbolic meaning of the lyrics of the song "UM Berkarya" by Mu'arifin. The theme of the song's lyrics is about progress, change, and dedication to the State University of Malang. As the song lyrics were created by a sports lecturer from the Faculty of Sports Science, it is of course very different from the creation of musicians. Therefore, it is very interesting to study the symbolic meaning contained in the lyrics of the song "UM Berkarya". The method used in this research is qualitative text analysis, with a hermeneutic approach to explore the deep meaning of each lyric line. The results of the discussion show that the lyrics of this song reflect the perception of times that move quickly and are uncertain, describe changes that are full of challenges, and emphasize the importance of innovation, achievement, and contribution to the nation. This analysis also reveals that the lyrics contain a message about commitment to continuing to improve quality, both in the context of education and in other aspects of life. Through an in-depth understanding of the aesthetic meaning of the lyrics of this song, this research contributes to a further appreciation of the art of music as a medium for conveying important messages about progress and dedication to an institution.
